Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is the capital of Gran Canaria and the largest city in the Canary Islands, set on a narrow isthmus on the island's north-east coast.
It combines Las Canteras, a long urban beach sheltered by a natural reef, with Vegueta, the 15th-century old quarter around the Cathedral of Santa Ana and the Casa de Colon, linked to Columbus's stopovers. Santa Catalina and Triana offer shopping streets, plazas and Canarian food, and the volcanic interior with Roque Nublo is about an hour's drive away.
Its mild climate makes it a major winter cruise base, with many Canary Islands and Madeira itineraries starting here.

A 3 km urban beach protected by a natural reef, with a long promenade of cafes; about 20 minutes' walk from the ship.

The colonial-era historic quarter with cobbled squares, the cathedral (tower viewpoint) and museums; about 10–15 minutes from the port by taxi.

Museum in a historic Vegueta mansion about Columbus's voyages and the Canaries' role as a stepping stone to the Americas.

The island's iconic volcanic rock monolith in the mountainous interior, about 65–70 minutes by road plus a short hike. It is best on a long call or an organised excursion.
