About Horta

Horta is the main town of Faial in the central Azores, facing the island of Pico and its volcano across a narrow channel. It is a small cruise port, visited by many expedition and small luxury ships. The town's marina is a famous stop for yachts crossing the Atlantic, and sailors leave paintings on its walls.

Cruise ships berth at a terminal about 500 m from downtown. Beyond the town, the island's volcanic interior includes the Caldeira crater and the Capelinhos landscape left by the 1957–58 eruption.
