About La Romana

La Romana is a sugar town on the Dominican Republic's south-east coast, next to the Casa de Campo resort. Most visitors head for Altos de Chavon, a replica 16th-century Mediterranean village above the Chavon River gorge inside Casa de Campo, or take catamaran trips from nearby Bayahibe to Saona and Catalina islands.

Ships dock at the Sugar Breeze terminal at the mouth of the Rio Dulce, an open-air terminal with a pool and swim-up bar. Most cruise lines run a free shuttle about 6 km to Casa de Campo and Altos de Chavon, and taxis wait at the terminal.
