About MS Spitsbergen
MS Spitsbergen was built at Viana do Castelo, Portugal, as the Azores ferry Atlântida, which was rejected at delivery in 2009 and laid up. Douro Azul bought her in 2014 and sold her to Hurtigruten in 2015, and after conversion work in Scandinavia she entered service as Spitsbergen in 2016. Now sailing for HX Expeditions, she was refurbished at Santander, Spain, in early 2025.
