Bodrum is a resort town on the Bodrum Peninsula in Mugla province, on Turkey's southern Aegean coast, built on the site of ancient Halicarnassus.
Ships dock at Bodrum Cruise Port, operated by Global Ports Holding, whose finger pier takes two large or four smaller ships. The terminal sits at Kumbahce, on the east side of the bay, about 1.5 km from the centre, and also handles ferries to the Greek island of Kos.
The medieval Bodrum Castle, home to the Museum of Underwater Archaeology, stands between the town's two bays, close to the bazaar, Bar Street and the marina. Other sights include the remains of the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus, the ancient theatre and the beach resorts of the peninsula, such as Gumbet.
