Bronnoysund is a small seaport on the Helgeland coast of Nordland, strung along a narrow peninsula just south of the Arctic Circle. It lies roughly halfway along Norway, about 840 km from each end of the country, in the middle of an archipelago of thousands of islands.
A Viking chieftain once kept a trading post at the foot of Torghatten, the island mountain south-west of town with a natural tunnel about 35 m high through it; legend says the hole was made by an arrow. Offshore lies the Vega Archipelago, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where islanders still build small houses for nesting eider ducks and collect the down.
Coastal express ships call on both their northbound and southbound routes, and small expedition cruise ships also visit.
