Where is the Bonne Bay cruise port?
Guests come ashore in small boats at the floating dock in Woody Point, on the south side of Bonne Bay, so landings depend on weather and sea conditions; check with your ship for landing details. From the dock it is a short walk to the heritage shops along the waterfront.
The Parks Canada Discovery Centre is on Route 431 in Woody Point, near the start of the Tablelands Trail, and looks out over the Tablelands, Gros Morne Mountain and the bay. Norris Point is about 3.5 km away across the water on the north side, but about 75 km by road. Deer Lake Regional Airport is about 69 km by road, roughly an hour's drive.
About Bonne Bay
Bonne Bay is on the west coast of the island of Newfoundland, with Gros Morne National Park on its shores. The park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its scenery and for geology that shows major stages in the Earth's evolution.
Ships call at Woody Point, a small town on the south side of the bay that is an enclave outside the park. It was first used by English fishermen to spend the winter, was later settled, and grew into a busy port; a large fire once destroyed nearly sixty buildings.
South of the bay rise the Tablelands, one of the few places where the Earth's mantle is exposed, pushed up as continents collided almost half a billion years ago. Gros Morne, at 806 m the island's second-highest peak, dominates the north side. Check the ship schedule for upcoming calls.
