About Balabac
Balabac is the southernmost municipality of Palawan, a group of about 32 islands at the far south-west of the Philippines, across the strait from Sabah in Malaysia. Remote and little developed, it is known for powdery white beaches, sandbars and very clear turquoise water, with some shores of pale pink sand.
Island-hopping trips visit spots such as Onuk Island, a palm-covered islet with stilt cottages over the shallows, the sandbars around Candaraman Island and Patawan, and the beach of Punta Sebaring. Snorkelling over the coral reefs is a highlight.
On land, the islands are home to the Philippine mouse-deer.
