Airlie Beach is a small resort town on Queensland's tropical coast and the mainland gateway to the Whitsunday Islands and the Great Barrier Reef. Day tours leave its marinas for the islands, the outer reef and Whitehaven Beach, whose white silica sand and the swirling tides of Hill Inlet are the region's best-known sights. In town, the free, stinger-safe lagoon sits on the foreshore, Boathaven Beach is next to the Port of Airlie marina, and the rainforest hills of Conway National Park rise behind the town.
